Edwin Hawkins was an American gospel musician, pianist, choir master, composer, and arranger. He was one of the originators of the urban contemporary gospel sound. Best known for his arrangement "Oh Happy Day," which was included on the "Songs of the Century" list, Edwin Hawkins changed the landscape of Gospel music! He is credited for paving the way for Gospel superstars such as Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, John P. Kee and many more! Edwin Hawkins was the founder of The Edwin Hawkins Singers and was a key member of The Hawkins Family with his brother, Gospel superstar Walter Hawkins.
